Chernobyl Nuclear Plant – New Safe Confinement (Ukraine)

The structure was designed to contain the Chernobyl nuclear reactor.

The supporting structure, which has an overall length of 170 meters, is made up of 16 arches with an external radius of approximately 140m and placed at a distance of approximately 12.5m. The arches are made up of tubular elements with variable sections between 93.6×6 mm to 813.0×55 mm.

The activity involved the western part of the structure. In particular, the design of all the connections of the arch and secondary structures was carried out. For some of these, of greater geometric complexity, finite element modeling was performed. Finally, all the executive / workshop tables of the entire western part of the structure were produced.

All checks were conducted with both European and Ukrainian legislation.
