Projects

Arched bridge over the Piave River (Italy)

Activity

Structural design (executive)

Description

The project stems from the client’s request to achieve a different solution from the one assumed in the initial design of the work and partially realized, following the new directives imposed by O.P.C.M. No. 3274. The aim of this revisitation was to make a decisive simplification in the erection phases by realizing a deck no longer characterized by a massive reinforced concrete structure but by a mixed steel-concrete structure.

Keeping the lateral profile unchanged, a structural optimization was carried out starting from a substantially “bi-beam” scheme; the two new longitudinal main beams turn out to consist of two metal caissons with an upper slab. The soffit of the span was replaced by the two lower flatbeds of the caissons and a connecting metal membrane.
