Seismic Improvement – ” Building Gentiloni Silverj”, (ITALY)

Activity

Structural modeling, seismic vulnerability analysis and executive structural design.

Description

Building Gentiloni Silverj is the result of the merger, carried out between 1812 and 1814, of two ancient buildings: to the east the Palazzo Guerrieri, formerly Rutiloni, dating back to the 15th century; while, to the west, the Silverj palace, dating back to the seventeenth century.

Therefore, since the building in question is subject to a protection constraint pursuant to art. 10 of Legislative Decree 42/2004, the assessment of the safety level against seismic actions and the improvement project are developed, with reference to the regulatory instruments specifically dedicated to interventions on the heritage of historical and artistic interest, according to an approach that combines the conservation needs, the desire to preserve the building from the seismic damage suffered following the 2016 earthquake in Central Italy and the safety requirements in relation to the use and function performed.

From the structural analysis of the state of affairs, a high vulnerability of the building subjected to seismic actions emerged, especially due to the poor connections at the level of the deck of the walls placed in the two main directions.

The goal of the seismic improvement, with the insertion of perimeter curbs and metal tie rods, was to achieve an increase in seismic capacity of at least 10% compared to that of the current state.
