Activity

In situ tests, seismic vulnerability evaluation, local criiticalities and vulnerabilities individuation, executive design of seismic retrofit and construction management

Description

The activity was structured in three main phases, that is in situ tests execution on existing materials with the following seismic vulnerability check, the executive seismic retrofit design definition, and finally the construction management of the project.

Right after carrying out in situ surveys and literature researches, it has been possible to define the analyzed unit structures geometries and construction phases.

The seismic analysis consisted of global non-linear static analyses and linear dynamic analyses in order to define the possible local mechanisms. The seismic retrofitting of the unit structures has been defined based on the main vulnerabilities detected.

The arranged executive design consisted in the structural strengthening and consolidation of both horizontal and vertical members. Those measures allowed to reach the following goals: align the existing vertical and horizontal structures towards the NTC 2018 code for vertical loads; remove the criticalities regarding the local mechanisms that could be enabled; reach the improvement of the structural behaviour from the seismic standpoint; restore the consistency state of the deteriorated structural elements  due to decaying phenomena
