Projects

Seismic insulation – New apartment building Giardini (Italy)

Activity

Structural modeling, seismic analysis and executive structural design, MUDE model drafting, construction supervision.

Description

The residential and commercial building located at 13 Via Agnini in Finale Emilia (MO) suffered structural damage following the earthquake of 20-29/05/2012, so it was classified as uninhabitable. Given the safety level of less than 60 percent and operational level E3, it was considered that the building could not be adequately repaired, and therefore the building was demolished and rebuilt. The project involves the construction of a rectangular plan structure of dimensions 50.7×21.3 m developed 5 floors above ground and a basement with a flat roof. The seismically isolated structure is of the reinforced concrete frame type consisting of thick columns and beams. The foundations consist of a 70cm-thick slab. The adoption of the construction technique of seismic isolation allows a reduction in the seismic accelerations to which the structure is subjected during the earthquake, a reduction in inter-story displacements with consequent mitigation of damage to nonstructural elements, full post-earthquake functionality, and high protection of the contents with low perceived
