Seismic isolation – Apartment building in via Tolmezzo (Italy)

Description

The structure consists of a single L-shaped building body. The supporting structure is composed of a reinforced concrete frame which, according to the design procedures at the time, is characterized mostly by unidirectional main beams.

The direct foundations consist of single piers under each column connected by a reticulum of beams.

The frame is perimetrically closed by infill wall structures, with hollow bricks along the inner side and fair-faced solid bricks along the outer side.

Inside the frame, with an almost central position, is located a stairwell consisting of cantilevered ramps coming from the staircase landings.

The slab-type consists of cast in place reinforced concrete slabs.

Regarding the intervention, it has been adopted the innovative technique of the seismic isolation through elastomeric devices with linear viscous-elastic behaviour and sliding devices. The strategy of the intervention allowed the elongation of the fundamental period of the structure, consequently bringing the superstructure in the low spectral accelerations field and reducing considerably the seismic forces
