Viaduct N ° 3 of Isola della Scala (Italy) – The longest integral bridge in the world

Activity

Transformation of a viaduct with 13 spans in simple support into an “integral bridge”.

Description

The project for the new viaduct involves the transformation of the structure from a simply supported deck to an integral bridge over 13 spans.

This was made possible by the new beam-pulvin connection made in three phases: new crosspiece on the piers; casting of concrete on the existing supports to block and fix them; connecting pegs between deck and piles.

The new viaduct was inaugurated in 2007 with an overall length of 401m still represents the world record in length for integral bridges.
